A Guid New Year To You (Videos and New Funding Streams)

Hi folks As someone said to me recently, ‘we decided it would be better to go with ‘a guid New Year to you’ rather than ‘Happy New Year”. With another full steam lockdown now in progress that feels about right. Guid is about as good as it gets at the moment. Videos Firstly an apology. I promised that if you got videos to me by the 15th December I would send a newsletter with some antidotes to Christmas telly. That was optimistic! Instead, here is a fine selection to beat the January miseries. They vary greatly, from showing what can be done with the heritage to talking about why we do what we do. Our place, our stories, us. It is fundamental and brings us to our centre. These videos also show what can be done, sometimes just with a smartphone, photos, and a bit of not very expensive software. Other times with a dollop of funding from MGS or the Lottery. In no particular order, here are some moments from 2020. Strachur Smiddy Museum The moment Cathie Montgomery starred on BBC Radio 4’s Broadcasting House, turned into a wee film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKOkJwDRqpM&feature=youtu.be Bannockburn House Showcasing the fabulous Bannockburn House. Great things happening here and can’t wait to visit in 2021. If you are feeling really blue and not really getting those conversations started, feel free to phone me (number below) and just have a chat. Great news – more support for independent museums Museums and Galleries Scotland have secured a further £3.1million for the independent sector. You helped with this – so many great applications, really demonstrating the value of what you do. Truly, there is no going back after the pandemic: independent museums are mainstream and in the headlights. Details on eligibility and how to apply will be out soon, but in the meantime MGS are encouraging you to get in touch with them if you are concerned about the potential impact of the latest lockdown on your organisation. Is this better? After all we get to attend every month and from our own home, wherever we are! The theme of February’s conversations is Youth Engagementhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/scotlands-community-heritage-conversations-2021-3-youth-engagement-tickets-133205943563?keep_tld=1 As someone said to me recently, ‘we decided it would be better to go with ‘a guid New Year to you’ rather than ‘Happy New Year”. That’s all for now. Keep chins up if you can. Days are getting longer and snowdrops are not too far away.

All the best
